Director of SEO

Description: The Director of SEO is responsible for the creation, set up, and Organic Media/SEO strategy formulation our client's new Organic Media department. The Director of Organic Media will ensure department goals for client acquisition, client retention, and department profitability.

The Director will hire a qualified team of experts/support staff to deliver the best results possible to clients. The department will drive more traffic, sales, and leads to clients’ sites and pages through organic content marketing and technical SEO. The Director of Organic Media is responsible for the creation, implementation, and analysis of organic programs and campaigns. They play a lead role in all off-site and on-site organic media projects, working in tandem with the lead Account Director on each project.

Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Spearheads all activities of the Organic Media department and leads the direct recruiting, hiring, and supervision of supporting personnel.
  • Accountable for the performance of the content optimized through the initiatives of the Organic Media department.
  • Sets quarterly and yearly department performance targets.
  • Ensures all content and technical SEO campaigns are run within the given budgets and deadlines.
  • Mentor team members by training and guiding. Developing junior staffers into senior experts.
  • Identifies skill gaps in the Organic Media department and work with the HR department in filling these positions with suitable candidates.
  • Determine the strategic direction of content campaigns for client accounts. Ensure these strategies are in line with the business’s overall goals and objectives in order to attract the anticipated value. The formulation of Organic Media strategies is done in conjunction with the Director of Paid Search, Director of Display, Director of Paid Social, Account Directors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Reviewing our clients’ content on a regular basis to identify opportunities, points of improvement, and creative solutions for our clients’ Organic Media programs.
  • Attends relevant events for the purpose of gathering new skills that will clients a competitive edge.
  • Conduct relevant Organic Media/SEO research of our clients’ content and take a data-driven approach in the creation of audience profiles. Based on the findings, prepare and lead content pitches and other strategy proposals.
  • Scope and employ the use of several measurement platforms such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console to identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
  • Conduct audits and collaborate in the measurement of the effectiveness of Paid Search activity by applying relevant monitoring tools.
  • Join and participate in new business pitches and will come prepared to each opportunity with a solid plan of strategy.

 

Background/Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in organic content & technical SEO management for clients. Needs a strong knowledge of both the content marketing & technical aspects of SEO strategy.
  • 1-2 years of experience mentoring and leading a team of Organic Media & SEO experts.
  • Experienced in strategy planning, execution, and optimization best practices in Organic Media and SEO with an understanding on how organic media can directly or indirectly influence website traffic and other media.
  • Experienced in developing, documenting, and implementing new processes to ensure department efficiency and consistency.
  • Superior analytical skills and strategic thinking – you’re strong on both IQ and EQ, as adept at reading data as you are at reading clients.
  • 1-2 years of people management experience or equivalent professional training.
  • Experienced in communicating complex strategic recommendations and plans effectively with C-level client contacts.
  • Strong and highly proactive communications skills.
  • Proven project management and performance management skills – you’re known for your ability to coach and develop talent, inspire and drive change, and bring varied groups together to collaborate effectively.
  • A passion for analyzing data and a strong knowledge of Google Analytics, Campaign Manager, Webmaster Tools, Tableau and other tracking platforms.
  • Knowledge of website development, pixel placement, and complex tracking and attribution needs.

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field
  • Previous agency or multi-client consulting and management experience.
  • Proven experience starting a new department from scratch, and/or increasing profit & revenue for an established Organic/SEO department.
