Director of Media – Remote W-2 Contract-to-Hire
Our client is a growing performance marketing and media agency managing more than $10 million in annual media for over 30 clients across CPG, healthcare, DTC, and B2B.
The agency provides both digital and traditional media services and is continuing to expand its strategy, planning, and leadership capabilities. They are seeking an experienced Director of Media who can lead integrated media strategy, advise clients, guide cross-functional teams, and help strengthen the agency’s media offering as the business grows.
This is not a narrowly defined role focused on one channel or one account. The Director of Media will have visibility across the agency and meaningful influence over client strategy, planning standards, team development, processes, and future capabilities.
The environment is small, collaborative, and fast-moving. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make a visible impact, work closely with senior leadership, and help shape the next stage of a growing independent agency.
The Role
The Director of Media will lead the development of integrated, full-funnel media strategies across digital and traditional channels.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead integrated media strategy and planning based on each client’s business goals, audience, budget, and performance objectives.
- Develop full-funnel media approaches spanning awareness, consideration, acquisition, and retention.
- Guide planning across paid search, paid social, programmatic, CTV/OTT, digital video, streaming audio, television, radio, print, OOH, and other relevant channels.
- Serve as a senior strategic advisor to clients, translating business priorities into clear media strategies and investment recommendations.
- Lead annual planning, campaign planning, budget allocation, forecasting, and optimization.
- Review media plans and channel recommendations to ensure they are strategically sound, integrated, and aligned with client objectives.
- Partner with activation, analytics, account, creative, and operations teams to ensure strategies are executed effectively.
- Use campaign data, attribution, marketing measurement, testing, and performance reporting to identify opportunities and improve results.
- Present media strategies, performance findings, business reviews, and recommendations to senior client stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop media team members while establishing clear expectations, processes, and planning standards.
- Help improve the agency’s media infrastructure, workflows, tools, and operating practices.
- Support new-business pitches, prospective-client strategy, and organic account growth.
- Build productive relationships with media, technology, data, and measurement partners.
What We Are Looking For
Required
- Approximately 10 or more years of experience in media strategy, planning, buying, investment, or a closely related discipline.
- At least five years of experience leading teams, major accounts, or senior client relationships.
- Strong experience developing integrated and full-funnel media strategies.
- Broad understanding of both digital and traditional media.
- Knowledge of paid search, paid social, programmatic, CTV/OTT, digital video, audio, television, radio, print, OOH, and emerging media channels.
- Experience managing meaningful media budgets and making investment-allocation recommendations.
- Strong client-facing skills and confidence presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring and developing media professionals.
- Strong understanding of campaign measurement, performance optimization, attribution, and reporting.
- Ability to connect media performance to broader business objectives.
- Experience working effectively across strategy, activation, analytics, creative, account, and operations teams.
Preferred
- Agency experience.
- Experience leading integrated media for multiple clients or industries.
- Experience supporting new-business pitches and organic account growth.
- Experience building or improving media teams, processes, tools, or capabilities.
- Familiarity with agency financial management, forecasting, scope management, or P&L responsibility.
Who Will Thrive Here
You are comfortable moving between high-level strategy and the practical details required to bring that strategy to life.
You enjoy working directly with clients, developing teams, solving problems, and creating structure in a growing environment. You can evaluate recommendations across channels without treating digital and traditional media as separate disciplines.
You are also motivated by the opportunity to influence how an agency operates. Rather than stepping into a highly layered organization, you want visibility, access to senior leadership, and the ability to help shape the agency’s media capabilities.
Position Details
This is a fully remote W-2 contract opportunity paying $60–$70 per hour. The engagement is intended to be long term and has the potential to become a permanent position as the agency and its media organization continue to grow.
