Lateral Partner Attorney
New York, NY
Confidential Opportunity
A growing New York law firm is seeking experienced lateral partner attorneys with portable business who are interested in joining a flexible, collaborative small-firm platform.
This opportunity is best suited for an attorney who has built strong client relationships, can bring business with them, and wants more support than a solo practice without the rigidity of a larger firm environment.
The firm offers a high level of flexibility, including remote and in-office options, and a culture built around trust, communication, and getting the work done without unnecessary micromanagement.
This is not an associate role and not a salaried lateral attorney position.
Why This Could Be a Strong Move
This platform may be attractive to attorneys who want:
- More flexibility and control over where and when they work
- A collaborative team environment
- The ability to continue growing their own practice
- Support beyond what a solo practice can provide
- A small-firm culture without big-firm politics
- Cross-practice collaboration with attorneys in complementary areas
- A firm that values business development and long-term relationships
- Autonomy without having to manage every part of the infrastructure alone
Target Practice Areas
The firm is especially interested in attorneys with portable business in one or more of the following areas:
- Commercial litigation
- Corporate law
- Real estate
- Trusts and estates
- Estate planning
- Not-for-profit / nonprofit work
- High-net-worth client work
Must-Haves
Qualified candidates must have:
- Admission to the New York Bar
- A portable book of business
- Existing client relationships that can realistically move
- The ability to originate work, not just service work
- Comfort working in a small-firm environment
- Comfort with a non-salaried compensation structure
- A book of business ideally in the $300K to $500K range
Candidates slightly below $300K may be considered if there is a strong growth story and clear evidence of portable client relationships.
Compensation
This is a non-salaried opportunity.
Compensation is based on an eat-what-you-kill structure. Attorneys receive a percentage of matters they originate and may also receive a percentage of matters they assist on.
The firm is looking for attorneys who are comfortable with compensation tied directly to business generation and matter participation.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a partner-level attorney who:
- Has an active and portable client base
- Is still motivated to grow their practice
- Wants more flexibility and autonomy
- Values a collaborative firm culture
- Does not need a guaranteed salary
- Wants a platform that supports business development
- May be coming from a solo practice, small firm, or midsized firm
- Wants more support without giving up control over their practice
Additional Growth Opportunity
The firm is also open to speaking with small firms that may be interested in a merger, acquisition, or integration into a broader New York platform.
