Our client is a growing baked goods manufacturer looking for an experienced Plant Operations Manager to join their team in their large new facility. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all activities within the plant in a team-based environment.  You will be managing all plant operations including Purchasing, Scheduling, Production, Distribution, and Maintenance departments. This position is a member of the company’s management team & reports to CEO.

Duties and Responsibilities

Planning Activities

  • Spend time on production floor working with team members
  • Evaluate production standards and adjust to improve efficiencies
  • Minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities and materials
  • Work in conjunction with Quality Control to achieve quality standards
  • Work in conjunction with Sanitation to ensure approval of third party audits
  • Establish group and individual accountability throughout departments for problem solving, cost reduction and employee safety
  • Conduct cause analysis, fact based problem solving and troubleshooting

Business Development

  • Examine new product opportunities presented by sales & marketing for operational synergies, evaluate impact, and report to management

Maintenance Management

  • Ensure needed equipment and facility preventative maintenance is being performed
  • Train department associates to perform maintenance procedures in accordance with safety policies and procedures and governmental regulations
  • Establish and maintain computerized maintenance management


  • Develop and work with in-house and outside engineering companies to enhance operational systems and increase production capacity or expand production opportunities
  • Design or recommend equipment and tooling for production processes


  • Develop plans of effective use and movement of all materials and team members
  • Work with warehouse team to facilitate goals

Communications & Managerial

  • Conduct plant meetings weekly or as needed
  • Create and maintain all required documentation for internal process approvals
  • Manage interdepartmental project activities
  • Coordinate all interaction with suppliers of manufacturing equipment and parts and create cost/benefit analysis for internal presentation
  • Perform and/or lead initial installation of production equipment, as well as mechanical adjustments and controls setup and optimization
  • Develop process flow charts and instructions for setup/operation for assigned production processes
  • Provide management and coordination of maintenance of plant electrical control and mechanical systems
  • Plant budget preparation
  • Conduct performance reviews for supervisors and assist supervisors with employee reviews

Desired Skills

  • 6+ years management experience in a high production food process environment.
  • 10,000Strong leadership skills, independent and team oriented thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities, and excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential
  • Excellent knowledge of GMPs
  • Ability to work in a team environment to create solutions and keep project schedules
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed with a high energy level
  • Strong skills in mechanical installations and in Problem-Solving
  • Experience with assembly processes
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and process improvement
  • Computerized maintenance management system software experience a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in industrial management, business or engineering required
